Hello friends and all are welcome to another blog about New Funko Pop. In this blog we will talk about the new product line of Funko Pop Mortal Engines . If you do not know what Mortal Engines is, below you will find a description of the novel and its curiosities, as well as the description of the characters depicted in the Funko Pop Mortal Engines . Go ahead, let’s start …
About the novel Mortal Engines:
Mortal Engines is the first of Philip Reeve’s four novels. The book focuses on a Futuristic, steampunk and post-apocalyptic world universe. This World devastated by a War (War of sixty minutes), which caused a massive geological upheaval. The habitants to escape earthquakes, volcanoes and other geological instabilities began to install huge engines and wheels in the cities. One of the first cities to do this was London with its leader Nikola Quercus. This allowed cities to dismantle (or eat) other cities for resources or technology. This technology spread rapidly and evolved into what is known as “municipal Darwinism.” Although the planet has stabilized since then, municipal Darwinism has spread to most of the world, except Asia and parts of Africa. Because much technological and scientific knowledge was lost during the war and since scientific progress has almost completely stopped, “Old Tech” is highly appreciated and recovered by scavengers and archaeologists.
Geopolitical Situation in Funko Pop Mortal Engines:
In this reality Europe, some parts of Asia, North Africa and the Arctic are dominated by Pull Cities, while North America was so devastated by war that it is often identified as “the dead continent”, and the Rest of the world is the bastion of the Anti-Traction League. This Anti-Traction League seeks to prevent cities from moving and, therefore, stop the intense consumption of the planet’s remaining resources.
About the city London:
London is the main city of traction in the novel, which has returned to a society of the Victorian era. The London society is divided into four large and several minor guilds.
The 4 main Guilds
● Engineers are responsible for maintaining the necessary machines for the survival of London, many of which are found by the Guild of Historians.
● Historians are responsible for collecting and preserving precious artifacts, often dangerous.
● Navigators are responsible for directing and charting the London course.
● The merchants are in charge of directing the economy of London.
London is officially governed by an elected mayor. The mayor in the novel is Magnus Crome, who is also the head of the Engineers’ Guild. Like most traction cities, London is built on a series of levels. This fosters the system of social classes, with the richest nobles in the upper part of the city and the lower classes below, closer to the noise and pollution of the city’s massive engines. High up in London is the Cathedral of St. Paul, the only building known to survive the Sixty Minute War.
On the Characters of the Funko Pop Mortal Engines:
First we have Hester Shaw who is one of the main characters in the series Mortal Engines. Hester was born in Oak Island. In this area there are no traction cities, so Hester grew as an Anti-Tractionist. When he was about seven years old, Thaddeus Valentine attacked his parents, specifically his mother to obtain an old weapon (Old Tech) called MEDUSA. Both his mother and David Shaw, the man Hester believed was his father, were killed. In this part of his life he received his characteristic scar when Valentine hit Hester’s face with his sword, causing it to fall down the stairs. Confused, she ran away, followed by Valentine’s men. Valentine took the old weapon and left, thinking she was dead. Hester climbed aboard her parents’ boat, hoping to find a doctor. She woke up on the shores of the Great Hunting Preserve, where she was found by Shrike. He spent the rest of his childhood living with Shrike aboard Strole, a scavenger town. Hester also accompanied Shrike on her bounty hunting trips.
The Villain of the First Book:
The second character is Thaddeus Valentine who is a historian in London and an important character in the first book. Valentine and Pandora Rae found the blueprints of a weapon made by the Ancients. Pandora and Valentine became lovers, and Hester Shaw was born as a result. After a long time of separating from Valentine, Pandora returned to the base where they had found the plans for the weapon. After further exploration, he found the brain of the MEDUSA computer and took it with her. However, the brain was useless, without the plans and codes of the last trip, now in Valentine’s hands. Pandora, wanting to sell both the plans and the computer to the Anti-Traction League. She contacted Valentine, so they could sell the items together and divide the profits. But by then, Valentine had become an agent in London. Knowing that if his city had the plans he would be unstoppable, he killed Pandora and her husband. Later, he took the plans and the artifact to London and helped the mayor, Magnus Crome, to recreate the weapon inside the Cathedral of San Pablo. As a result, he was elevated to the position of Chief Historian.
What is the main character in Mortal Engines?
The third Funko Pop Mortal Engines is Tom Natsworthy which is the main protagonist of the book. He is an apprentice historian at the beginning of the series, eventually has various adventures around the world. Tom was born in London, the son of Rebecca and David Natsworthy. His parents were murdered in the Big Tilt, and he was later left to the care of the Historians Guild. At age twelve, he won an award from the Guild for an essay on the identification of false antiquities. At fifteen, Tom was a third-class apprentice and worked with Chudleigh Pomeroy. Tom was accompanied by his hero, the historian Thaddeus Valentine, as well as by Valentine’s daughter, Katherine. Together, they approached the scavengers in Salthook to buy Old Tech. However, one was a murderer in disguise, and he tried to stab Valentine. Tom managed to stop the attack and chased the girl towards the oven district.
The would-be murderer revealed that his name was Hester Shaw. He claimed that Valentine was responsible for his disfigurement before jumping through a waste conduit. Soon after, Valentine arrived and, to Tom’s surprise, pushed him towards her.
